POWER COOL INNOVATING DATA CENTER OPTIMIZATION

The Role of CFD in Data Center Optimization

SYNOPSIS

Power Cool Engineers is determined to provide their clients with optimal datacenter designs and arrangements that are both energy efficient and exceptionally reliable with the help of Resolved Analytics and CFD modeling. By utilizing CFD, the entire space within the data hall can be analyzed and visualized. Hot and cold areas can be balanced in order to maximize the operating conditions of servers while areas of elevated pressure drop can be adjusted in order to efficiently reduce energy losses in the air conditioning system. Multiple cooling system control techniques can be tested virtually before implementation in the field.

With the help of CFD modeling and Resolved Analytics, Power Cool is able to deep-dive into their data hall designs by investigating and optimizing rack layouts, heat densities, fan flow rates, temperature trends, pressure drops, and air flow patterns within the data center. The modeling approach allows for a rapid turn-around between designs in addition to allowing for numerous ‘what-if’ scenarios such as power failures. With CFD, Power Cool can be confident that their designs meet their lofty standards well before build-out and startup on site.

“Beyond expectation - we approached a partnership with Resolved Analytics to do a few CFD simulations, and it proved to be so valuable that we have since requested dozens of additional simulations. The CFD (models) have helped our clients make very informed decisions and resulted in successful projects/efforts.”
